PUBLIC TRANSPORT

 

There are good options for travelling to and from Northshore by bus or rail, with bus stops and the train stations located within convenient walking distance.

WHY USE PUBLIC TRANSPORT?

Public transport use is good for you and for the environment - a full bus takes 50 cars off the road, improving air quality, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and freeing up road space for other buses and cyclists. Walking to the bus stop or train station also helps you stay active.

TRAVELLING BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT

TRAVEL BY BUS

The nearest bus stops to Northshore are located on either side of Harvard Avenue, adjacent to Stockton Riverside College (as shown on the map above). These stops can be easily accessed via the Infinity Bridge and are served by the X10 service which operates between Middlesbrough and Newcastle.

Additional bus stops are located on A1046 Portrack Lane, located to the north of Northshore. These stops are served by the 13, 13a, 13b and 58a services. Timetabling information for these services can be found online from Stagecoach.

TRAVEL BY RAIL

There are two Stations within walking distance of Northshore, as shown on the map above. You can plan your rail journey’s on the National Rail website or by using the service provider’s App or website.

Thornaby Station

Thornaby rail station is the nearest railway station to the site, located within approximately 1.0km walking distance. The station can be accessed from the site by foot or cycle via the Infinity Bridge.

The station has 12 sheltered cycle parking spaces and 60 car parking spaces. To find out more about the station’s facilities click here.

The station is located on the Tees Valley Line, which runs between Bishop Auckland and Saltburn via Darlington.

Stockton Station

Stockton rail station is located within approximately 1.0km walking distance of Northshore and can be accessed by foot or cycle. The station is located on the Durham Coast Line, which runs between Newcastle and Middlesbrough via Hartlepool. To find out more about the station’s facilities click here.

PLANNING YOUR JOURNEY

There are a number of online journey planning tools and websites available which offer real-time information updates, timetabling and ticketing options.

If you’re traveling from anywhere in West Yorkshire using public transport, you can use the Connect Tees Valley Journey Planner to plan your route to/from Northshore. Alternatively, you can use Google Maps to plan your route from A to B and compare all the options available to you by selecting the public transport icon.

Operators also have apps that will list out your travel options, including details of the near bus stops and walking routes. The app will tell you which service to catch, where from, what time, and how long your journey will last, but note that the app will only list services provided by that public transport operator.

Alternatively, if you are not certain of the times you will be traveling or would like to know more about the frequency of service, timetables are useful. The easiest way to access timetables is by visiting the website of the public transport operator or Connect Tees Valley.

TICKETING OPTIONS

There are a variety of day tickets, season tickets, and travel cards available for a variety of service providers.

Tickets can be purchased prior to travel on your smartphone using the bus operator’s App.

GoNorthEast, Stagecoach  and Arriva Bus offer ticketing Apps.

Physical tickets can also be purchased when boarding the bus, or from the ticket office /machine located at the train station.

PASSENGER ASSISTANCE

Bus Travel

GoNorthEast, Stagecoach, and Arriva Bus, who operate local bus services, offer free bus travel for concessionary card holders.

A Concessionary Bus Pass allows you to travel free of charge anywhere within the Tees Valley (Stockton, Middlesbrough, Darlington, Hartlepool and Redcar and Cleveland) between 9.30am and 11pm on weekdays and at any time on weekends. You will need to check the Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council website to check that you are eligible.

Rail Travel

Different train operators can accommodate wheelchairs of different sizes so it is best to check before you travel. All rail companies offer assistance to people with disabilities or restricted mobility. Most travel assistance must be booked over the phone at least 24 hours in advance with the operator you intend to travel with.
