We’re taking part in Road Safety Week 2022

We all use roads and most of us have experienced road danger. Our lifestyles are often heavily influenced by our travel choices and local road safety is fundamental to how we make our journeys. This year's #RoadSafetyWeek theme is Safe Roads for All, giving everyone the chance to learn more about safe and healthy journeys and preventing road deaths and injuries for all road users @brakecharity

The start of 2022 saw changes to the Highway Code and among the key changes were new rules about vulnerable road users. A ‘hierarchy of road users’ was introduced that prioritises those most at risk on our roads.

Now, drivers must be aware that pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders, carriage drivers and motorcyclists, as the most vulnerable road users, should take priority over cars. . A ‘hierarchy of road users’ has been introduced that prioritises those most at risk on our roads. Prior to this, all road users were on an equal footing so were equally responsible for their own safety and the safety of other road users.

This road safety week, there are things you can do to get involved and support people affected by road crashes, all while imagining a future where no one is killed or injured on a road. Get involved by ditching the car and walking or cycling to work. Not ony will this reduce traffic but if will help reduce pollution. Wear your brightest clothes to remind drivers to look out for people who walk and cycle. If you need to drive, watch your speed and watch your stopping distance.
