Car Sharing FAQs

Use this page to find all answers to your car-sharing questions. If you’re unable to find what you need here, please feel free to contact the travel team here.

What is car sharing?

Car sharing is when two or more people share a car to make the same journey together.

Can I be flexible?

You don’t need to car share everyday to have a positive impact. Only offer a lift / accept a lift to work on days that work for you.

Where do I sign up?

Liftshare is an online platform designed to help you find someone to carshare with. For full details on how the platform works click here.

Alternatively, chat with colleagues and friends, to arrange to travel together and share the cost of driving. You could also ask you employer if they run their own car share scheme.

Will I like my match?

Car share with a colleague you know, meet a potential match for a chat prior to sharing or set up a profile online with a list of your preferences.

What if my plans change?

If the unexpected happens, have a backup plan (e.g. public transport) or search online for another driver to share your journey with.

What about costs?

Swap who drives every day/week to spread the costs or work out a fair fuel contribution based on your journey to work. If you register your arrangement through Lifttshare, the contribution will be automatically calculated for you.

Happy travelling!
